End-of-life Doula
“death doula”
As a community, we are reawakening to the importance of honoring our dying.
What a sacred moment we have where we can rely on each other and not on institutions.
Our End-of-life Doulas journey with the person who is dying, and their family, to help them navigate through the whole end-of-life process.
range of care
End-of-life doulas are hired by patients or family members when a terminal diagnosis is given and stay with that person and their family through their death and beyond.
When people are nearing the end of their lives, a doula will visit and often sit vigil with them as they are transitioning back into spirit.
They help individuals and families do legacy projects such as art projects, scrapbooks or writing letters to leave behind for their relatives. They also help patients with their will and other advanced directives.
What we are here for is to provide emotional, spiritual and physical support for the dying and their ohana.
Before a person becomes unable to speak and make decisions, our doulas works with clients and their families to figure out every detail of what they would consider their ideal death, down to what they want to listen to at the end.
They also offer family support such as explaining the signs of death, helping prepare family emotionally, discussing burial options, advising how to negotiate with health care providers and explaining end-of-life care options such as hospice and palliative care.
End-of-life doulas do not provide medical services.
Our doulas use a sliding scale and charge anywhere from $30 to $100 per hour, depending on the service. Scholarships are available if needed.
“Our End-of-life Doula helped me talk through things and talk about a lot of my fears, and I know she was amazing at talking to Chris and helping him arrive at a place of great peace, he saw such benefit in having those important conversations. ... Because nothing was left unsaid, the healing process for me has been easier.”
